Gravel bikes pull speed from the road and fold in stability and handling from the mountain. It’s arguably safer, makes you a better rider, and is undeniably fun. Transducers are even more infliuential in the cognitive bias that they induce. As trails become more crowded and phones distract drivers on the road, riders are turning the pedals toward remote stretches of backcountry gravel. I could not help ordering AP90 in this context to experience more unique (and hopefully fitting my quest) rendering. Now coming from Cirrus with their spaciousness and relative neutrality ( HD pro, BHD, E44, Shio, DC03 pro, Tanchjim Space, etc) ESS 9038-based sources start to sound almost weird and would require a lot of different hearing readjustment. Niw I am chucklung, but it took months to slowly realign and readjust the hearing bias. My best IEM review would be just taking few lines of the response of people, who got them on their own, especially on the margin of their limited budget, so their opiniion is that of their hard-earned, carefully selected choice that they are invested in.Īs for the frame of reference - do not discount the heavy bias of hearing adjustment.Īfter my warm ESS-based DAP, HD pro felt like terribly awfully sterile (like "yikes"). BA15 would be a relevant example, a super ZSN that I grew to appreciate but hardly any point to share my subjective sentiments. My selection criteria are very narrow, an IEM is good/great if it can contribute to some good flavour of rendering of late Beethoven quartets by Takacz. I do not see much point to share my sentiments on my favourite modified ASX or T800 that is so well-enginered and I can appreciate it as the best ofmy other competitively favourite imperfect all-BAs. I found it more instructive to leave my limited opinion on what I personally found more interesting/controversial, like HZ Mirror or Muse M3. I can see why they have a dedicated group of fans. They sure know how to make their customers happy. They were ahead of their time lol.Īnyway, just wanted to share this incredible discovery. If they had stuck around, maybe they could've been a big player in the booming chi-fi market. I was sad to learn this company HiFi Boy disappeared after releasing a few IEMs. Penon sent me this with the 10th AE 2 weeks ago. Not sure if it's the cable or the switch from 3.5mm to 4.4mm, but what an incredible and drastic change in sound quality. Everything opened up, improved, and it now has good bass and slam. OMG it sure did! The PurpleSE unleashed this IEM's potential. I wanted more bass presence and thought maybe this cable would bring it out. I then decided to switch the crappy cable for a cheap but not crappy cable: the NiceHCK PurpleSE 4.4mm balanced, and slapped on some JVC Spiral Dot tips. Penon gave me a free $150 IEM with the 10th AE purchase? No way! 10th AE was already a bargain for its sound quality and performance, but they also included a $150 IEM too? Wow! Found out this IEM got a bit of hype back around 4-5 years ago. So I did a bit of research to find out more about it. GOOD! I was surprised by how good they sounded, but it was missing bass and sounded thin. The default cable was cheap-looking and cheap-feeling, so I just put it aside for 2 weeks.įast forward to this morning, I decided to try this IEM out. I picked the IEM case option for the free gift and thought they just added a free IEM with the case. It just arrived in the same box as the 10th AE, which I was very excited to listen to. ![]() I looked inside to find a cheap-looking IEM and didn't think about listening to them because I thought it was a crappy free IEM that I didn't order nor pay for. They haven't decided on price yet but these can compete with similar driver configurations. And if one loves a musically warm sounding set with slightly forward vocals, this one be the one to get. The only issue I had with this set depending on the tracks, the bass could be overwhelming but then again it's ISN. ![]() Texture, quality, slow decay, its all here with the single 10mm DD. But the mids are great especially male vocals as they got weight to them and female vocals sound natural.Īnd we know ISN loves to tune the subbass to have rumble and punch. Is it an Aure? No, due to the way the bass is tuned. What surprised me is how slightly forward the vocals are it sounded similar to the AüR Audio Aure. As a result there is a more details up top and it doesn't sound as dark. Penon decided to add more to the mids and treble using 4 Knowles for the mids & highs. Neo 5 has more than 150+ hours of burn in.Īs for the sound, it has that ISN DNA but this tuning is new.
